Love Those Beads by Rebecca Yue

Softcover, 17 pages, Hot Of The Press, Inc., 1250 N. W. Third, Dept. B, Canby, Oregon 97013

This book offers techniques and designs for making very lacy jewelry using two needles simultaneously. However, you could use one needle right angle weave for most of these designs. Yue offers definitions and basics of stringing supplies and tools used in the projects. There are 21 projects and 8 techniques included. Most of the designs are created with glass coated beads and plastic beads simulating pearls. Some of these designs would look striking with size 4, 6 and 8 seed beads. These necklaces could also be completed with combinations of small and large seed beads and would just need additional portions added for difference in scale. The Chinese Coin Knot Pendant is very attractive. It is a decorative knot usually made with cords but Yue has used strung beads instead. Again, seed beads would look great in this design instead of coated pearls. I sat down and tried to make this design but I had a hard time following the diagram. I searched my bookshelves and found the same technique using a fiber cord in Chinese Knotting by Lydia Chen and it was easier for me to follow. However, seeing the design in Yue's book with beads was what stimulated my mind to make it in size 11 seed beads. I did not have any problem following the directions for making the right angle pieces. If you want to make a variety of necklaces, bracelets and earrings using a few basic techniques for jewelry reflecting a look of the past, then you would probably find this book of interest. I will be reviewing Chinese Knotting at a future date.
