Those Doggone Beads
by Valerie Hixson This book includes peyote stitch charts for 26 of the most popular breeds of dogs. It is helpful if you already know how to do peyote stitch, but there are instructions for flat even count peyote, as well as increasing and decreasing peyote. There are diagrams to help you with the text, but they were a bit small for these old eyes to easily see. One of the things in the instruction part of the book that impressed me was the hints about changing the color of the dog in the chart to the color of your personal companion. She even tells you how to change the shadows to complement the dogs color. I think it was very thoughtful of Valerie to put this kind of information in her book for us to use to personalize our work. The patterns are not all rectangles like most pattern books. Some of these portraits are worked in heart shape others are oval or circular. This is a nice change of pace book if you are a dog lover or know someone who would appreciate this type beadwork. My only problem is that I’m a Maltese lover and that breed is not included. I wonder if Valerie is working on a Doggone Beads #2? Review by Teresa Barrett |
