Crocheting With Beads by Kate Coburn
KTB Publishing, P.O. Box 483, Gilbert, AZ 85299-0483, Softcover, pages, $14.95

The cover of this book displays images of seven projects you can make; a Button and Bead Brooch, Fichu Pin, Tassel Pendant, Tubular Bracelet - Solid Color, Lace Edge Brooch, Striped Tube Bracelet and Fan Brooch. Coburn starts with an introduction and then tells you which fibers work with the projects and techniques in her book. There were a few fibers listed I had not even thought of trying out. Next you find a general instructions page which has basic information and illustrations for attaching beads to the fiber in a single crochet, double crochet and treble crochet. It is assumed you already know basic crochet techniques. Next is crochet terms and abbreviations along with the symbols. You find finishing details for backings, jewelry findings, tassel fringe and assembly before you get to the projects. Each project has an overview which describes the piece; a complete list of materials; type of stitches used; bead usage which tells you how many beads will be placed in a particular stitch; preparation which tells you which type of thread or yarn to use and loading of beads onto it; crochet instructions and finishing of the piece. Each project has easy to follow illustrations. Some of the projects have schematic drawings which look like those included in crochet magazines and books. Coburn also includes a resource list for materials. This is a good instructional book to learn bead crochet plus enjoy interesting projects. Those who have already mastered basic crochet and can read regular crochet jargon will have no problems. If you are new to crochet and have just mastered the basic stitches, I would practice and learn to read basic instructions from a how-to crochet book before attempting the projects in this book.
