Cool
Crochet by Melissa Leapman Melissa is a very established crocheter and knitter, instructor and author of several publications. Her instructions and patterns are excellent, and she offers great diversity of style and design. At the beginning of the book there are 30 small color photos of the patterns which include tops, sweaters, T-shirts, hats, bags, stole, scarf, coat/duster, slinky black dress, bikini, poncho, skirt, and wire bead crocheted necklace. Below these little photos are short descriptions and the page number to find the complete pattern. Many of the patterns are for teens and young adults; however, there are also designs for women too. Each pattern includes step-by-step instructions, tips, and all other pertinent information. Schematics are provided for those patterns requiring them. Basic crochet instructions plus stitch variations and finishing techniques are at the back of the book for reference. Bikinis are no longer part of my wardrobe; however, I am sure they would be much appreciated by the younger crowd and those of you who are fortunate to still have a terrific physique if you dare to wear! There is a skill level listed for each project and the stitches run from advanced beginner to advanced. Most of the patterns are designed for intermediate and advanced beginner with a few advanced patterns. The stitches are diverse including easy to crochet motifs, shells and seed stitch. The little black dress, actually worked in royal purple, is very attractive; the poncho is a very easy openwork pattern; and the bolero style jacket is a statement of elegance. Cool Crochet is a good book to get your teens and young adults interested in crochet; which helps bring handwork to our younger generation. Melissa has authored the perfect crochet book for today. |
