The pattern designers are listed as Sarah Kent, and Kathy Barac.  However, when looking at the various patterns, there are other designers listed, many from Australia and Wales.

Beaded Embroidery is a compilation of patterns and techniques favoring nostalgia and romantic motifs. There are applications for adding beads, sequins, raised thread and beadwork; a variety of embroidery stitches and embellishment techniques.

There are instructions for making little thread and bead berries, detached leaves, smocking with beads, gathered flowers and other little creations.  After learning the techniques, you can embellish your projects and also make the projects in the book.

There are several bag patterns with instructions to make the bags and embellish them, plus add a metal frame.  The embellishment on the bags is lavish and easy to make.  In addition, there are instructions on how to embellish a pair of shoes with beaded motifs, pillows, little strawberry clustered sachet bags, embroidered wall pieces and other items.

There is full color throughout the book and detachable full size patterns at the back of the book.  There are step by step instructions, plus tips and explanations about the project stitches and composition.

This is a very good book for both two and three dimensional embroidery with beautiful projects.  The one detraction is the “lazy” stitch being titled “lazy squaw” stitch.  This book is a 2006 publication and the editors and publisher should know this demeaning term is no longer acceptable or used in publications.  Anyone who has worked the lazy stitch that Native American use knows there is nothing lazy about the stitch in their applications.
