American Glass Beads by Torben Sode 8"by 8" hardcover in readable English and Danish. 78 pp. This is an exhibition catalog that documents contemporary American, (U.S.A.) lampwork and furnace bead makers featured at the current exhibit at Ebeltoft, Denmark. The first half of the book has 14 color photos of glass beads and the beadmaking processes. Techniques used by each artist are described and you get to see photos of some of the artists at work with the torch or making chevron beads with molten glass. The rest of the book gives two full pages to each of the 23 beadmakers. There is a brief biographical notes and two color photos of the beads represented at the exhibition. I found Emiko Sawamotos Temari ball beads the most unusual in a book loaded with art glass, borosilicate millefiori beads, Warring States beads, and floral fantasies of many artists including a look at the elusive Kim Osibin at work. The exhibition was from November 8, 1998 through January 1999 at Ebeltoft, then it moved to two other museums in Denmark. The book is imported to the U.S. by Linda Benmour.
