Handknit Style is a beautiful book with a spiral enclosure, making it easy to open flat while knitting your pattern.  Each pattern has a fold out page with everything you need; materials, gauge, pattern and finishing.  Every page is in full color except in the instruction sections.

There are 16 patterns which include ponchos, cardigans, boas, sweaters, pullovers, wraps and a kimono.  The authors designed beautiful patterns; some very easy and others more complex.  Martingale is known for their beautiful presentation of their books.

There is diversity of yarns, as well as patterns.  There are romantic patterns with fancy ruffles, edging and shaping, while others are very contemporary with a sleek, chic, loose appearance.  Some of the patterns require yarns that are variegated, or for striping and color blending.

My favorite patterns include: City Style: Cosmos Poncho; Fabulous Fringe: Tweedy Cashmere Poncho; both include easy instructions and a schematic for reference; and Art to Wear: Rectangular Kimono which is also very easy and made in one piece with folds for creating the kimono shape.

There are tips, information for getting started and making a sample for gauge, plus knitting basics, finishing and a resource list for yarns and knitting supplies.  The majority of the patterns are for more advanced knitters, however, there are some dynamite ponchos, a kimono and a wrap that the advanced beginner can knit.  Handknit Style is a joy to browse through with lovely patterns and pick the one you want to make first.
