This book is about a craft that I had tried without any usable results! That is about to change!

It is broken down into three specific types of knitting: hand, Viking and machine knitting, with an added section on the all important findings for the completed work. I have to confess that being a former knitting machine owner I was not the least bit interested in that portion but I loaned the book to a friend who swears by them and she is now sporting machine knitted fabrics from wire.

I think the most important portion of the book for beginners is the chapter on choosing the right wire. If you have the wrong gage of wire for the project, not only will you ruin your hands, you will never come up with something that can be used or worn. This craft definitely takes practice and patience but once you get started it goes fairly smoothly.

The Viking knitting intrigued me. I have always admired the delicate look of the Viking knitted chains and had no idea how to do it. With Nancy’s drawings and easy to follow instructions it is a snap. My husband didn’t quite understand why I needed a vice for knitting though! It’s not really knitting as we think of it but a knotting technique. I don’t know why it is called knitting. Whatever you call it though, it’s beautiful.

The projects in the book using the techniques that are learned are very doable and useable. I want to make a chain for each of my artist’s lampwork beads to really show them off. Using the colored wire will be spectacular!

This book would be a valuable resource for any wire worker or for any beader looking to expand their horizons. It opened up a world to me that I had slammed shut at one time.
