If you want to look good honey, your feet gotta hurt by Ruth Reynolds ISBN 1-57120-048-7, softbound, 64 pages, $16.95, C & T Publishing, P. O. Box 1456, Lafayette, California 94549 If you're having a dull day, this is just the little book for that quick pick me up! Bold color drawings, bright color photos and "in your face" text takes you on a journey into the realm of Ruth Reynolds and her girlfriend, Riva. Ruth Reynolds is a gifted quilter and definitely a humorist. Her series of cartoon quilts featuring Riva are an absolute delight. Ruth uses only one page of the book for her side of the story and the rest is turned over to Riva. Ruth strongly denies that Riva is her alter-ego but I'm a bit skeptical. Riva relishes the platform that Ruth has created for her in this book. Written in diary form, the book flows with insights into the inspiration for Ruth's quilts. Occasionally the pen is handed to Ruth for descriptions of quilts, elaborate embellishments and the fabrics used but Riva clearly runs the book as well as the show! Serious quilters may be offended by some of the techniques and materials used but all women will identify with at least one bit or piece of Riva's personality. "RIVA" is a great hostess or holiday gift for your quilting girlfriends or anyone you know who has an "attitude!" Read and look closely at all the drawings and pictures. This little treasure is sure to provide giggles on a dull, down day. Enjoy |
