Sharon Pederson’s first book, Reversible Quilts, has to be one of my all-time favorite quilt books.  I absolutely love the concept of “reversible Quilts.”  Not only do you get two for one, but with the “Quilt as you go” method—when you’re done, you’re done.  No more work. No necessity for pinning the quilt sandwich and struggling with handling the whole quilt, while trying to “stitch in the ditch” or control a quilting design.  Not only that, the reversible quilt is the perfect solution for all those Christmas fabrics we have accumulated at the irresistible after Christmas sales.  In terms of making the most of your time, a quilt that has a Christmas theme on only one, side can be used all through the year, not just for one month.

Imagine my delight to discover that Sharon has published another reversible quilt book.  In addition to new designs, she has added several changes to her methods of design to make it even more efficient.  Her detailed instructions and diagrams could be understood by a beginner, and are certainly of interest to an advanced quilter.  Lest you think that this method is too rigid or controlled to allow creativity, I direct you toward “Nana Loves Emma,” “All Day Sucker’” and “Hornby’s Twilight.”  She also demonstrates how curved lines and designs featuring the sashing can be incorporated into a reversible quilt.  Machine embroidery, photo transfer and computer enhanced designs are also included.  The “Fastest Ever Charity Quilt” is a welcome addition and, last but not least, a pattern for “Not Enough Cats” will appeal to the cat lovers among us.

This is a wonderful book prepared by a creative and skilled author who effectively shares her expertise.  Her chatty style and collaboration with talented friends, in addition to effectively presented technical information, make this a very useful and enjoyable book.

I have a wonderful example of this technique, a comforter made by Diana, a gift and in my colors.- Lydia
